Resolved Question: Do anti-colonialists find it strange that many present-day colonies do not want independence?

French Guiana, Martinique, St. Barthèlemy, St.Martin, French Polynesia, Rèunion, Guadeloupe, etc. have repeatedly voted against independence from France, mostly because they believe that their quality of life will decline. Turks and Caicos Islands, Bermuda, Anguilla, Virgin Islands all reject independence from the UK for the same reason. The Netherlands Antilles, Saba, St. Eustatius as well. Is this because they have looked at countries that have become independent (viz.
